SPIN selling: practising Situation, Problem, Implication and Need-payoff questions

SPIN selling asks four kinds of question: Situation, Problem, Implication and Need-payoff. The hard one is Implication, which helps the buyer see what the problem costs. Teachrity lets reps practise the sequence with an AI buyer and scores whether implication questions were asked.

The four question types

Situation questions gather facts. Problem questions find difficulties. Implication questions explore consequences. Need-payoff questions let the buyer state the value of solving it.

Why implication questions are hard

They feel uncomfortable, because they ask a buyer to say how bad the problem is. Reps skip them and jump to features, then lose to price.

Practice with feedback

The AI buyer answers briefly unless asked well. Scoring tracks how many questions of each type were asked and whether the rep moved from problem to consequence.

After the call

The rep reviews the recording and sees which question types were missed, then repeats the call.

A common sequence

Open with a few situation questions, move to problems, spend most time on implication and end with need-payoff. Practice shows a rep how long they dwell on each.
