BANT lead qualification: how to practise it until it sounds natural
BANT qualifies a lead on four points: Budget, Authority, Need and Timeline. The skill is asking for each without sounding like a form. Teachrity lets reps practise BANT against an AI prospect who deflects, and scores whether each element was actually established.
What each letter means
Budget is whether money exists or can be found. Authority is who decides or signs. Need is the problem worth solving. Timeline is when a decision must be made. A lead missing two of four is rarely worth chasing yet.
The common mistake
Reps ask four direct questions in a row and the prospect shuts down. Better is to follow the prospect's own words and fold each element into the conversation.
How practice works
The AI prospect gives partial answers, such as budget is not fixed, and the rep must follow up. The rubric checks that each element is established, not only asked.
When BANT is not enough
For complex, multi-stakeholder deals, teams add a framework such as MEDDICC. Teachrity can score against either.
Recording what you learn
After each call the rep notes what is known for each letter. Gaps tell the rep what to ask next, and keep weak leads from clogging the pipeline.

Qualifying a deflecting prospect
RepHow are you handling this today?
AI prospectWe manage. Budget is not fixed this year.
RepIf it solved the delays you mentioned, who would need to approve spend?
AI prospectOur operations head, probably in the next quarter.

BANT on a call
| Letter | A natural question | Weak sign |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | How have you funded similar work before? | We have not thought about it |
| Authority | Who else will weigh in on this? | I just collect information |
| Need | What happens if nothing changes? | Nice to have |
| Timeline | What is driving the date? | Sometime next year |
