AACSB assurance of learning: measuring oral communication and ethical reasoning

AACSB asks business schools to show that students achieve stated learning goals, and to act on the results. Teachrity gives assurance-of-learning committees comparable, rubric-scored data on oral communication and ethical reasoning across sections. It supports evidence preparation and does not confer accreditation.

The measurement problem

Oral communication is usually assessed by individual instructors with different standards, which makes cohort data hard to compare and hard to trust.

Common rubric across sections

One rubric, applied to every student in every section and moderated by faculty, produces data that an AoL committee can actually aggregate.

Ethical reasoning

Scenarios such as a misleading sales claim or a conflict between profit and a stakeholder ask the student to decide aloud and explain. The record shows how they reasoned.

Closing the loop

Scores by criterion show where a goal is not met. After a change in teaching, the same scenario can be re-run to show whether it worked.

Sampling for AoL

AoL committees usually assess a sample, not every student. Teachrity records every attempt, so the committee can draw a sample from a complete record and moderate it.

Sample exchange

An AoL committee compares two sections

ChairSection A scored higher on delivery than Section B. Why?

FacultySection B had a different instructor and no rehearsal.

ChairCan we apply the same rubric to both?

FacultyWe already did. The data are comparable across sections.
